Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We left the fly rods at home (yes, they screamed) and decided to go ultralight on this trip. Lisa's first fish of the day was a at little smallmouth on a topwater.

Yeah, I've got several Pop-R's in both sizes.  You can get the same basic lure (same shape), from Jann's Netcraft, under a different name.  Just add split rings and hooks, about $2.50 / ea.  Some in colors you can't get locally.

Allen... I think if ya could have only one top water lure, for me it would HAVE to be the Pop-R! In at least two sizes.

Nice!  I have just the setup for that, almost the same line, except I usually got with 8 lbs mono or flouro for a leader.  I've got several Pop-R's as well :)

These fish paired with really light tackle are a hoot! Light but not whippy, you need some backbone to fight them in the current. We were spooled up with ten pound test Power Pro and had a six pound test leader of fluorocarbon on. She was using the ultimate Smallmouth top water lure... a small Rebel Pop-R.

There you go. Great smile for the first fish. Fly missed out..spinning takes lead.
