Finally had a chance to get out and fish. The water temps are on the rise after summer-like weather in my part of Indiana. My dad, one of my uncles, and I hit one of our favorite bluegill and redear lakes Saturday and the bite is on.
We ended up bringing home plenty of good eating size fish, and we had a 10" redear and a 9.5" redear along with one gill that went 8.5."
Yeah in Nw Indiana, nice 7-9 inch gills. Redear are on the beds earlier then the gills. My cousin called the other day said me he had caught 10 redear over 10.5 inchs, with the biggest being a shad under 12.5 inches. The redears get as big at this lake as any ive seen on this sight. Really weedy, with tons of willows and lillys come summer. Crickets are the best live bait to get a bite, but for big redear I like to throw a inch section of crawler on either a ice jig that has red/orange or a 80th oz jig and float that with my longpole right by the lilys and or willows. Gill season is here, enjoy the fun and be safe evreyone.
You wouldn't be talking about Willow Slough would you? We went up there for ice fishing and caught a few decent gills but nothing huge. I heard there are nice redears in there but have yet to get up there for open water.
HAS ANYONE FISHED PATOKA AROUND THE MARINA AND DAM AREAS.
ARE THE EARS AT PLENTY THERE? WHAT ABOUT HARDY LAKE? DID THE STATE KILL THE VEGETATION THERE? MAN I'LL MISS THOSE GIANT PADS.
