Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Finally got to break this thing in. Our own Walt Foreman built it for me as a specialty BG rod, designed for casting lightweight offerings without any added weight, or float, while still experiencing the awesome fight of a big Bluegill.

It's built on a 2-weight flyrod blank,  but I'll let the builder fill in the rest of the details.......

What I can attest to, is the sheer functionality and beauty of this rod.....

Thanks Walt, looking forward to putting it through it's paces!!

Being a Gill enthusiast I joined the forum but was led here by doing research on rods made by Walt Foreman. I am really pumped that I have decided to have Walt build me a rod.

Nice rod!

Wow outstanding! Love the feathers in there! YOU are a lucky man!

EVERYTIME I SEE THIS PARTICULAR ROD I like it more and more. Great Job Walt and the feather touch has been around years , but not alot of fellas used it . Never did a feather myself as a decoration and stick to simple basic stuff myself as I'm to old to do this quality of work anymore. You should be proud of your work and did you use a high build finish like U-40 or Flex Coat ? Great work buddy and it is a work of art in my opinion...........

Nice rod Tony looks like it should be very sensitive. Can't see the upper half but the bottom half looks beefy.

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone!  David, to answer your question, I do use a high-build finish - for this rod it was ProKote, though lately I've been using Threadmaster.  Feather inlays seem to be popular these days as I see a lot of them on custom builder websites.

Dick, this rod is actually super-super-light, lighter by a good stretch than any factory UL rod made.  It's made on a 2-weight fly rod blank - the blank weighs less than an ounce before thread or components are added, .7 oz. to be exact.  The max line test I recommend to be used with it is 4-lb.

I'm working on a couple new rods at present - one of them should be ready in a week or so.  I don't have a shop, and my lathe is outdoors on a patio, so I'm just waiting at the moment for a day in the fifties so I can get outside long enough to do some handle work.

THANKS WALT FOR THE INFO and reel interesting and I see that QUALITY WORK IS NOT DEAD , but it is on life support!!!!! YOU CUSTOM BUILDERS DOING GREAT WORK are the way things should be done and all to sadly today aren't. I"m envious...........

Thanks, David, much appreciated!

I use St. Croix 7 ft ulta-light and Bass Pro Shop Micro Lite 7ft 6" rods for long time. I like it very much! Throsands of bluegills for me. I went to Cabelas to look around and I found a nice rod that should be good! I bought Dawa Presso 8 ft ultra-light rod. It's very nice IM7, fast tip and ultra-light 2 to 6 lbs test line. Its perfect for 4 lbs test line and It should able to cast little farther than my old rods. I felt my new 8 ft rod and I can feel when my wife blow to my rod's tip!

Very nice ! Am just re-joining this web sight now. Gotta admit, less user friendly. Cannot see where to click to start a thread, can't find the groups there used to be. The background art makes it difficult to read some of the stuff on the screen,etc.. New, is NOT always improved. At a small local fishin' shop found a line of rods from some folks in Mi.. Whip-R Rods. Billed as the "ultimate panfish rods". I'm taking a 5'6" one to trout camp in April for Brookies. Anyone here trying them ?   steve b

Tony;; no wonder you love that rod !  its a thing of beauty !!  hand lathed wood; marble look; feather decoration-- only thing I see wrong with it is-- I DONT OWN IT !!   has to be a blast fishing with it ;; what is the biggest fish you caught with it ??

YUP OLE WALT DOES SOME NICE WORK FOR SURE , WELL  THAT'S TO UNDERSTATED FOR SURE ." JUST PLAIN OUTSTANDING IN EVERY WAY"
