Do you love big bluegill?
One of my favorite top water flies to fish in the spring and early summer is a fly called a foam wing willow fly emerger. It is a fly that gills can't pass up when they are gorging themselves on this tasty treat. The lakes that I fish have a lot of over hanging trees at the waters edges and when I see the branches covered with willow flies, this fly gets the call to the bull pen. It's foam wing floats right on the surface and gives the fly the appearance of an emerging insect . Which means dinner for Mr. Gill. The fly is easy to tie, composed of a size 10 light wire hook, gray rabbit/antron dubbing , black wire for rib, a small triangle piece of 2mm foam, grizzly hackle, and a pinch of crystal flash. Hackle is wrapped around the foam wing instead of the hook shank. No special way to fish it. Just toss out and wait for the slurp!Give this one a try at the vise and on the water. I think you"ll like it to .

Really a good looking fly, Rex. I will try tying some of these myself. Thanks for the post!
