Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Fished Lake Geneva with Rod Lee today 10am-4:30pm....scoured vast expanses of deep weed edges in search of bluegills between 10am and 2pm.....virtual dead sea. Slid the boat over deep water for a look.....nada.

We headed back to our original starting point in 15 fow for another drift.....following my previous gps track, we drifted bobber sets at 10' down.....and dragged 1/16 oz spoons with the hopes of scraping up a few fish.....I had already chalked the day up as one of sorrow when we hit pay dirt.....large gills, and a few crappies started eating spoons like gang busters.....we anchored down, and proceeded to plow...My partner had a spot in front of the boat that was non-stop on the bobber rig (Ice jigs and waxies).....I stuck with casting a 1/16 Blue Fox rattlin' flash spoon in glo-firetiger, that was yielding good gills on every cast.....this went on for 2 hrs.

Surface temp was 45 deg.....5 degrees colder than any other previously successful spoon outing.

No giants but lots of 8-9" fish......we released the larger specimens, and kept a lions share :)

Yes....but cold rain is coming this weekend, and all the launch piers have been removed.

Great job! I was thinking of heading up there this coming weekend. I don't mind finding my own fish but do you think they'll still be feeding hard?

Excellent catch! Way to hang in there when it got tough!

John......the wind was a consistent NNE @12 mph, and the conditions were cloudy all day.....I tend to believe that timing was a key factor.....LG is gin clear, and the bite did not begin until 2:30pm....honestly, I'm still scratchin' my head on this one!

Very nicefish and good report! Pretty good day for cold weather like late November! I would like to try to go ice fishing at William or Geneva Bay this winter!

Excellent report Bill ,thanks! You guys used two differnt methods .The ones I use thanks to you and others here at bbg.com.Curious as to how wind direction and sun may have affected a final turnon of those fish.

Very nice report which proves you have to be flexible and employ different techniques. You guys displayed the patience of seasoned anglers and you were rewarded for your efforts. Good looking fish Bill!

What a great report, Bill. I especially like the way you describe your methodical way of finding the fish.

So after all was said, why do you think you connected with fish, in an area you had previously gone through?

PS I also enjoy seeing and hearing about your techno-stuff (GPS, Fish Finder and so on) I find it inspiring!
