Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

      Hey Guy's,

Well October is almost in the books and I have had an amazing month fishing for Yellow Perch, here in NJ. Late Fall and Water temps in the high to middle  50's sends the Yellow Perch into the shalllows here to feed up for Winter on the young of the year bluegills. Any semi clean flat 5' deep or less will hold groups of fish. As will open boat stalls and areas around sea walls and docks. Any small soft plastic tail on a 1/16oz jighead will draw strikes from this hungry little scrappers. I am partial to Berkley power grubs, but always have a Charlie Brewer Slider grub and a Berkley Ripple Shad rigged up. Small minnow type baits and crankbaits will catch fish too. I have attached another photo of a decent fish caught yesterday on a Ripple Shad, if you look close you can see the young of the year bluegill he coughed up right below my bait. Can you say match the hatch!  This fish was caught on my G. Loomis TSR 862-2 light action matched to a Daiwa Exist native custom 1003H. 4lb Berkley Fireline Crystal, 6lb Berkley Vanish Fluro a 1/16oz Lunker City ultra light round jighead and a Berkley Ripple shad 2" in Firetiger. I also Caught about a dozen decent crappie from a marina basin yesterday as well. Only good concentration of them I located. Fellow member Noel Sell believes it is cause of the Halogen lights in that part of the marina. I think he may be right. Caught 6 gills, and a huge rockbass from under a boathouse. All in all a great day on the water.

Great report ,thanks!
Nice work Brian!  Really good information coupled with good testimony. Its very rewarding  to transition with the different species as the weather patterns change. Continued luck to you as November closes in!!! This kind of report gives us all a good place to start when we visit the water we most frequently fish. ><]]]]*>
Just wanted to say I am a big fan of Sliders. Catch most of my crappie with the little ones and most my walleye with the big ones.
