nice little copperhead there, looks like a very healthy area for fishing and small game hunting too. Been bit once by one of his relatives here in KY. Don't really have it on the things to do again list. LOL But not too bad either, they won't keep me from working a shore line.
John

Must be spring, can you see him?

Went to my buddy's pond with him ONCE, we had to cross a flooded field to get to the pond levee and the pond was on the other side, this left the only dry ground being  the levee it's self, and all the snakes in that part of the state were sunning , resting, and sleeping on the levee. It was creepy stepping over sleeping snakes, and when you cast out into the water at least 3 snakes swam toward your float which you were not watching because you were watching for snakes around your feet. I could not believe  it ,but there were thousands of snakes where by buddy wanted  me to go fishing with him. I should have brought my shotgun because I thought I needed it to get back to the truck,I felt lucky I wasn't bit a hundred times. It creeped me out so bad I've never been back to that pond, and I wont go back without my shotgun and a case of shells.
It's still difficult for us to tell which snakes are poisonous, which are not. We don't kill the harmless ones, even though they eat a few fish. I think this snake was harmless, as it didn't have a big triangular head.
It was probally a rattledheadedcoppermoccossin !
maybe have had some Austrialian sea snake mixed in too. Never know what might swim up these creeks into my pond. They don't have a big head
OMG how did you keep from freaking out? I am deathly afraid of all snakes & fortunately most places I fish aren't very snaky....well that I Know of.

Your LORDSHIP, How was the FISHING that day??????

Anyone know what kind of snakes these are?

Hi, new to the forum and I thought I could clear up this issue. All these snakes are harmless water snakes. Not cotton mouths or copperheads. All are non-venmous and will retreat if you walk near it like all other snakes and there is no need to worry or kill these animals.

Here is a great site for telling the difference between venomous and harmless comes into question.

Hope this helps, straight lines to all,

Josh

That was very very helpful Joshua. We don't kill harmless snakes, only the poisonous ones. I think this is a necessary "evil" as I don't think they would return the favor of letting us survive, and I sure don't want them making more here.

Glad to be of some help.

There really is no need to kill any snake, as I stated they will turn tail at any sign of danger. I have studied snakes all of my life, and no snake will deliberately "attack" a person. Biting when steped on is their only defense and not much of one at that. Just my opinion.

Hope you catch some big ones!

Josh
