Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

i know i am opening a can of worms(no pun intended).but having chased the mighty gill with fly and rod for over fifty yrs. i thought i would ask all of you the pointed question.
if you could only fish one fly for gills what would it be,or in other words what is your most productive gill fly.

Not to dump over the can of worms you opened, but... the fly I would choose if I could only have one and my most productive fly aren't the same thing.

I would choose a small popper over just about anything, even if it meant catching fewer fish. I just love to catch fish on topwaters!

My most productive fly is a dark (generally black) heavy weight nymph in a size 10 or 12. It has a little flash and does best fished deep and slow. Kinda boring.
Black Nymph's are not boring!!!! How about a picture?
my most productive fly is a floating fly dark blue in color size 8 hook white legs made by bea bea bugs and booglebugs
The Black and Bluegill that i found in a magazine
I have my best luck here in NE on a #14 black woolly burger with a red collar and a black tungsten bead to match.

bryan that is a good looking bug,the red coller is a nice touch.

gators are ugly

As with any jig, fly, lure, I think it comes down to personal choice, which is usually governed by how much success you have had with the fly you choose. If you have a lot of confidence with a particular pattern, I think you tend to be a lot more patient before tossing it back into the tackle box to try a different one.

Bully's Bluegill Spider in Yellow Chenille with yellow rubber legs... start with longer legs, if you get short strikes trim them down a little at  a time. Having said that... there are days when a foam spider just can't be beat.

Right now down at the pond it's a little size 10 brown Wooly Bugger, but usually anything with rubber legs, especially foam spiders!!!

Size 12 soft hackle grey body brown hackle tied very sparse.  Probably will not catch the biggest gills but nearly every place I've ever fished it works for the most fish.
