Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been having trouble locating some of my favorite quill bobbers: natural quills, wire loop at the bottom, small rubber band around the middle of the quill. Does anyone have any good sources for these?

Are you saying that waiting until the bobber goes under is too late? I should set the hook when it starts rocking? No, I didn't catch anything but one sick fish. Lots of nibbles, that's why I'm asking if I'm waiting too long
You just have to learn on your own. I've only been doing the LOFR LICK test for a year or so. Most of the time I still get a solid bite and let it go under. But sometimes they just suck it in an hold it there. The only way you know is the tip does something unusual. Set the hook and get ready to duck the hook and sinker if nothing was there. Sometimes they are, sometimes they ain't.
Thanks John.

You can find them in both 8-10" and 6 to 8" sizes at inkminers.com online.  Tight Lines!

BBG member bob garner has been making a few lately and selling them. Im sure he could proably help you

I bought some from Bob Garner, and they worked great. I used a o ring on mine to secure on the opposite end from the wire loop that it comes with. Very sensitive, and a blast to fish with!

They are effective.  We used them up here in the Catskills for trout fishing.  Aside from being super sensitive, there's just about zero resistance when a trout takes them under, which means fewer missed fish.  I started making them when I couldn't locate them any longer in the tackle catalogs.  I think the last place I found them was the old netcraft catalog.  They're plenty durable.  I had a couple from Gramp's old tackle box that may well have been older than I was!

Please excuse me for recycling some of my old photos but I have one to show you just how sensitive  porcupine quills are , and yes I did throw it back  cause it wasn't the smallist that I have seen on here ,Greg Mc Williams holds that Title.  Remember this is an 8 1/4 inch quill .    LOFR
