Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I am going to post my recipe for "My McGinty Wet" . More creativaty went in to the fly than the name. This is a very effective fly. This summer I used it to catch 25 Gills in an hour and a half. I have caught a lot of fish on this fly through the spring and summer last year and this year. The fly is not weighted so it rides just below the surface (where i usually fish it) unless it is allowed to sit. It has a slow sink rate making depth control easy. OK now the recipe

Hook-  #10 Dry fly hook

Thread- 140 denier black

Body-medium black and yellow chenille

Wings-Ice Dub Pearl

Tail-red goose biots or red feather bits or red yarn or ...

Wrap hook eye to bend with thread. Tie in tail and then tie in both black and yellow chenille pull yellow foward wrap black chenille 2x around and tie in. Pull black foward and wrap yellow 2x around and tie in. Pull yellow foward and wrap black 2x around, tie in and trim chenille. Wrap thread back to first black and yellow joint and tie in a small piece of ice dub for wing. Wrap thread back to eye and whip finish. Enjoy!!!

The McGinty is an old old pattern ...it is a bee imitation very effective fly for panfish, you can fish it as a dry or wet ..I personally like the soft hackle version ....leave it on the surface than let it sink...never gets more Than an inch or two under the water b4 a fish hits it .......
