Warning: Internet Explorer web browser security hole

I know this is BBG, but quite a bit of us are using Internet Explorer version 6 to 10 to surf the internet, especially BBG site. So, as an I.T. geek, just want to give you a head up warning:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57515097-75/microsoft-offers-advi...

My workplace is also on full alert, as the main branch of government of Germany systems were hacked. We're switching solely to FireFox and other browsers right now for doing internet work.

If anyone needs help with internet browser or antiviral software installation, let me know.

Microsoft released the patch for I.E. browser hole. Not sure how well the security hole is patched up, but Microsoft indicated it was well patched. So, use your Windows Update to install all updates in relating to I.E. browser and security.

As the saying goes, friends don't let friends use IE :)

Beyond switching to Firefox, I would also recommend that anyone with a little technical understanding (and some patience) use the NoScript extension for Firefox. Using NoScript, Java and JavaScript will be disabled by default for every website you visit, and every link (visible or not, for any domain) on that site. Since nearly all browser exploits depend on JavaScript to work, that makes NoScript very powerful protection

The patience part comes in because you have to manually allow every domain that you want to be able to run JavaScript in your browser, and that can sometimes require 5 or 10 iterations of "Allow domain X" before all the page elements you want to see are working correctly. I don't have NoScript in my wife's Firefox because she would kill me :-)

Not a problem at all Tooty. Microsoft software, or we would called it in our geek world's, and pardon the French, "Microsh*t!" or "Microcrap", has always been the primary attention for hackers and crackers. A conspiracy theory that since Bill Gates stole the idea from the inventor of VML, which led to creation of MAC, well..a world of hackers are dedicated to make Microsoft miserable.

Just be careful using Internet Explorer, of course, including Java based pop-up boxes for FireFox, Safari, etc.. They will ask you to install things. You click on YES without reading things properly, you might as well hand over your life's saving and soul to the hackers, who are laughing their heads off because you're gullible enough to click on the YES button.
