How about trying to get a plastic wrap used for covering your foods and heating in the microwave, cover the jar, and close the lid tightly. The plastic will help seal the surround jar as the lid pressurize down on the plastic. Double and triple fold the plastic wrap to increase the thickness of the plastic layer, creating a better seal. Make sure the plastic wrap is nice and straight when you fold it. I do the same thing with my "stink bait" jar, which will leak all over in my inflatable pontoon tackle bags if it's not properly sealed.
