Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Giant bluegill using the Modica spooning method.

Here's a massive bluegill caught on Bill "Musky" Modica's spooning method.  This method has been heavily featured lately by In-Fisherman Magazine, both in print and on their nationally acclaimed fishing show.

This fish was over a foot long, and looked like it was taking steriods.  I'd love for Bill to describe this particular spoon and why he likes it so much.  Bill recommended I use this setup, and it worked like a charm.

Tim, the modification to single hooks is important.....not necessarily it's overall size, but its  ability to rig soft plastic trailers, and to maintain a balanced presentation when fished horizontally.....treble hooks complicate this technique, and become an un-hooking nightmare during a hot bite.

Wow what a giant, Bruce I'm so jealous. Keep them picture coming. Hoping to see movies from Bruce Condello productions shortly. Great job on the fish Bruce.

Further south than Nebraska. :-)  More on this later.  I have to tease a little bit.

Yes, two to three pounders were common.  This one was right at three.

Tim, this is a relatively small body of water, but fairly deep, and all accesible from shore.  The best way to fish it was to lift straight up, and have the spoon flutter back down to the bottom.  I'd only get about three "lifts" that were in the key areas, and the fish would hit on the descent every time.  So essentially, yes, it was a horizontal retrieve, but fish hit on the straight drop.
