What type of animal is a bluegill?
I live near, and fish in the Delta of Southwest Alabama. This is one of the biggest natural estuaries in the world and is made up of more than half a dozen rivers that empty into Mobile Bay which is part of the Gulf of Mexico. We have freshwater rivers that empty into Mobile Bay which is salt water (being a part of the Gulf of Mexico). The place where these two meet is called "brackish" water. It's a mixture of fresh/salt water. It's nothing this time of year to catch speckled trout, flounder, and redfish several miles inland up the rivers and creeks where the freshwater fish live. And, you'll also catch the bass and some bream in the more brackish water also. Very diverse ecosystem including extremely large alligatore, black bear, coyote, panther, whitetail deer up to 200 lbs., beaver, nutrea, Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes, CottonMouth Moccasins, redtail hawks, and an occasional bald eagle. You can catch anything from bluegills, yellowcats, crappie, large mouth bass, shell cracker and alligator gar, to redfish, speckled trout, flounder and alligator within just a few miles of each other. This is one of the most diverse habitats in the world. See the following links for more. http://www.outdooralabama.com/Fishing/freshwater/where/rivers/delta/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Bay . Both are excellent websites to learn more about this area.

If you check the marsh around lower Tensaw near the causeway, you will find my foot prints all over it. I love catching croakers around there and Bayminette Creek is the first place I ever went fishing. It has the most beautifully colored bluegill in the world. My uncle Bill and My Uncle Monroe lived where 225 crosses the creek now. It's called Buzbee's landing . Leslie is my cousin. I am sure you have read about him from time to time. I will be going down to see them shortly. I learned to swim right in front of the landing. I will never forget how cold that creek is in the summer.
