Brad Reid replied to Jose mejia's discussion Mono to braid in the group LINE WARS
"Allen, for sure, on heavier braid in certain circumstances. Me? I use heavy braid on my casting reels as it makes it manageable. Since even 50 lbs. braid is still rather thin, and retains its limp character, it works great, casts well. Lighter…"

"Slip  Sinker has it correct regarding the freaky strength of Nanobraid. I just don't think the 2 lbs. breaks anywhere near that level of pull. It is available up to 14 lbs. and is smaller in diameter than similar sized 832.  But,…"

Brad Reid replied to Frank Manuele's discussion big fish big lure
"This is generally true. The latest trend toward giant swimbaits sort of proves it. Too, the general size of bass caught by Drop Shots and Ned Rigs, both typically small presentations, tend to catch smaller fish than larger presentations. Still,…"

Brad Reid replied to rich's discussion st. croix panfish rods?
"Chuck, I do think the newer panfish models are likely improved over the Triumphs but I've never owned the latter. The St. Croix website used to have, likely still does, a description of some of the new features, improvements. It seems they were…"

Brad Reid replied to rich's discussion st. croix panfish rods?
"Looking forward to your results. I put some 14 lbs. on a 2500 reel and, so far, I really like it as it is the same size as 832 but even stronger. Not that the extra strength is any big deal for spinning gear most of the time. Brad"

Brad Reid replied to rich's discussion st. croix panfish rods?
"I have 2 St. Croix PF rods, love both of them. I use the short, 5'4" most of the time when fishing from my canoe or kayak. I can float/drift up to a dock/boathouse and flick a lure back well into the shadows, seem to catch bigger bluegills…"

"I meant to mention that I'd likely get the smaller S-13 (see below) if I bought another Sportspal. Why? 57 pounds, so 10 lbs lighter than the S-15 and only 13'2" in length making it super easy to car top or carry in the bed of most…"

"Very nice! Practical, too. I use kayaks, too, and own two of them, but my first love is my Meyers Sportspal S-15. It has a square stern and I occasionally mount a TM to it. It will also take up to a 5HP outboard. 705 lbs. capacity so can be used…"

"Great question! My wife and I headed down to Houston a week or so ago and I carried along my 5 ft. St. Croix panfish rod. I mention it first because, well, I love it and it'll fit in the trunk or just lying across the back seat in most cars. I…"

2 lbs. Sufix Nanobraid Report

A few weeks ago, I posted the math related to calculating just how much line is needed to fill a reel spool (of  known dimensions) to a desired depth and in doing so, determined that it takes one heck of a lot of line if its diameter is .001". This is what Sufix claims for its 2 lbs. Nanobraid. If one converts the millimeter measurement Sufix also provides to inches, it is a bit closer to .002" as I recall. Still, it is incredibly small for a true braided line.

Anyway, I have fished…
