Tony,

These could be made smaller, too. Ive gone to #16 hooks with them, using seed beads.

But I know Jeff likes em big, so there you go. Im thinking even you could tie them.

Well said Jeffrey and Leo !!!!!!!!!! I admire a great many fisherman on here because of their dedication to the sport. I also Admire mmmmmmmmmmany of the tiers on here who are constantly coming up with the next great bait. Too many guys to list of course. Keep the creative juices flowing guys !

The idea of translucence is all part of nature in some aspect or form , and has drove many tiers batty trying to come up with a material or substance that imitates nature, and believe that Scruffy is onto something here . I can't find glass beads here , but only checked one place , Hobby Lobby . GOt to give ole Wally world a try next when time permits ......If it was me trying to imitate the innards of a grass shrimp Scruffy, I believe I'd try something very small wrapped on the hook shank before putting the beads on , i.e. Floss or some other material that doesn't take up much room ...... Just a thought buddy......

Translucent offerings are at the top of my 2014 experimental list. Up there with basic, and tiny.

The aim here in my mind is to add 'translucence,' an element that seems hard enough to reproduce in artificial lures.

Look at the shrimp Jeff uses to such great effect - they are translucent.

One of the qualities often attributed to the traditional flies, at least by the old Masters is translucence.

The beads should offer that, once the light hits them. They may even replicate to a degree "innards" of some sort. Who knows? Things look different under water than under the cameras lights....

They will also sink pretty readily and get down to the deeper fish - which are usually the bigger ones. All they have to do in the end, is make a fish say, "Maybe." I hope they achieve that much.

Leo - ostrich herl, beads and marabou, buddy.

No problem Bill and I appreciate the kind words.......it truly has been a great year and 2014 should be awesome as well.....

Very nice David! Indeed Jeffrey, the cultivation and provision of unique ideas and designs, combined with the skills and talents of anglers, provide excellent opportunity to display great to awesome catches. The best of all, it's the BBG family's members that are willingly share their resources to each other that truly make this site a unique place to be at.

Will be stealing this design from David, and will love to see the unique results come in from his creation.

Jeff,
I think you have lived the perfect testimonial of the difference between the phenomenon of the lure catching the fisherman or the fisherman catching the fish. A true life story of what the Linder's @ InFisherman have preached for years Fish+Location+presentation=Sucess! Walking those aisles at Cabela's and BassPro catch us all with the idea that we need this or that in every color, size and weight to be successful...and that is the difference between fishing and being a fisherman. So I take my hat off to you sir, in salute to being in a very unique group! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and efforts in what has been an exciting year following your catches.

Many commercial baits come and go and I for one have invested a fortune looking for that next big thing.....we don't see this very often when it comes to bluegill with the exception of a few small companies......there is no doubt in my mind without ever fishing these that they will leave a footprint if you will.........it may be of little significance to many, but I caught over 6,000 gills in 2013 and more than 4,000 came on baits I received from members of this site....True, many of those fish could have been caught on other things but there was a lot of satisfaction from working with the craftsmen here and coming up with baits that are already classics in my mind......This adds so much to the experience here on Bigbluegill.com.......Networking the entire bluegill nation is not possible without the work of Bruce Condello......I visit other sites that claim to be the best, I'm not convinced! We have assembled over 4,000 members and almost 30,000 of the greatest fishing pictures available, not to mention all the knowledge, civil discussions and just plain MUTUAL RESPECT! For that I'm truly grateful to be a featured member and represent such a great family of anglers........Kudos to you all!
