Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

.... WELL SORTA. A simple slip on tool caddy is more like it.
1" EPV foam cut where needed to hold the "gear" and sundry items. The 3/8" shaft for the vice I'd a right friction fit. The little red thing at middle right is a whip finisher. I added a red plastic wall anchor as a grip.

This might be something worth considering for you, then.
Although it is just my wife and I, today, I used to be in a similar situation as you.
To this day, I construct things to be compact and mobile fire this reason.
So it goes....

Excellent approach. I don't create hundreds of flies, so, I'm patient enough to use two bobbins with two different threads. If needed be, I just take my time to switch. The missus here claimed 80% of the space in the house, so, remaining 20% is shared between my kids and I. 10% is the garage, limited my room the the side walls, and 1% is the computer station, where my arts and crafts are done. Space is precious commodity for me ;)

I see what you mean, Leo.
Those three threaded holders are actually BOBBINS with spools.
Few flies require more than three colors of thread.

You can own a hundred tools to tie flies, but you can't use but a few at a time.
So, that's what this is - a "ready tray," for tying the one fly you
happen to be working on at any given time.

Excellent homemade bench. Love the simplicity of the thread holders. Wouldn't it better if you have a holder made of a dowel for easier remover?

Welcome to fly tying nightmare, where all your money will be spent on making masterpieces, and failures ;-) Hehehehehehe

Thanks, Tooty.
My natural inclination is to something more elaborate. One of the things I like about
fly "stuff" is it's gadgetyness. I'm an inveterate "gadgeteer" and this tray
is just an interim step.
So, I'm looking at one of those tabletop tying trays for the future. For right now,
The Foam Mini Tray will suffice.

Looks good to me David and prefer the simple approach my self..........

Thanks, Bob. Just kinda random and off the cuff. But I figured my fellow could maybe
do the same. It IS useful.

I've seen these things for too much money in the fly catalogs (that seems to be a
a trend for fly stuff). Well, I have a large quantity of this foam that I scavenged from a rubbish heap, and it was an easy leap to make my no-cost version.
