Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ice fishing has been off the charts this year. We have found plenty of fish at many different lakes and have been fishing our butts off....:)

You're doing the right thing to accelerate your learning curve. I also read (or watch) anything I can get my hands on to learn about my favorite fish. I have felt the best way to catch fish isn't to follow the hot bite and use the same lure everyone else is using but to actually learn the how's and why's fish do what they do. I feel this allows you to dissect a lake you have never been on before and be able to get on fish and I want to be that kind of fisherman......:)

thanks for the come back...

looking forward to your blog post...

just recording typical movements of panfish on my lakes... belly hugging during the day and vertical movements upwards towards dusk.... following plankton.. im waiting for later in the season to monitor movements upwards in the column due to depleted oxygen levels. of course all lakes experience a different rate of depletion or not at all. ive been finding several articles correlating this and i find it very interesting. im new to icefishing per se but heavily experienced open water.

The quick answer to your questions Mr. Slip sinker is yes I use flashers (won't fish without them) and depth will very depending on the lake but in small lakes I target the deep whole and yes the fish typically suspend but not always. The flasher will tell you where they are, I fish lakes where they are 8-12' deep or 30-42' deep so it can very quite a bit. I use two rigs, I always put a bobber rig (dead stick as we like to call them) and have the minnow hooked to look natural and my jigging rod which would need to be a blog post or something to explain as there are more details that would take quite a bit of time to explain....:)
