Yes..in the Fall and this year 1,200 tags will be issued in a drawing/lottery format.....$100.00 a tag for residents and $300.00 for non-residents....Good thing is the money raised is put back into the wildlife and fisheries for managing South Carolina's alligator population which is estimated to be over 100,000.......They were removed from the threatened species list in 1987 after reaching an all time population low in 1960....
Jeffery, do they have a hunting season in South Carolina for gator?
You are correct on the territorial piece....if they are both males one of them will be pushed out or killed by the other....It's usually a several square mile area of water that the big males take over......
Jeffery, the reservoir I fish regular has two about that size that were put in by the water works dept several years back to control the beaver population. They are skidish now but I understand they can get territorial when they get larger. I'm always on the look out as I'm launching my kayak especially when people dump chicken liver and other bait when they load up to leave.
I respect you guys that can do it in a kayak....I want some boat around me....some guys were trying to crab from the pier today but a 10 footer was stealing all their chicken....
Thats just a baby, I saw one as large as my kayak ( 12' ) yesterday.....I gave him a Very Wide Berth! I've fished in Florida about 50 years and never had a problem with one.....and I plan on keeping it that way.
You can hardly throw a line in the Cooper River and its many tributaries......Time to call in the Swamp People.....
