LEE THIS IS KIND OF LIKE MAYBERRY HERE and Otis still works at the gas station with Goober! Whoops forgot we don't have a gas station , grocery store, medical assistance, or anything else for that matter here. We do have two taverns though , but Im not allowed in em anymore for stirring up the bluegill fisherman there and stuff.

We experience a coloration phases with the gills over here in California, as the sunfish migrate from water to water, from depth to depth, and from season to season. Take a coppernose for instant, the hue changed drastically from a light purple-pink with mostly green-and-small light blue body (during early fall to early spring), to a full dark purple dark-and-light blue, heavy black and green patches (during the late spring to late summer). We gillers noticed the same coloration transition for hybrids, much more so than the pure strains, that either hang near the dense vegetation vs the pure strain that like to hang near the structures. Transitional phase occur as vegetation colors change as well. I've been scratching my head, and search for various data submitted by other anglers with photo documentation. So far, BBG yield the highest level of photographic evident to reinforce this finding.

I notice some part of the country, crappie are exhibiting the same. Bass, depending on the natural predation existing within the areas, also exhibit the same. Jeffrey is the greatest contributor to the photographic evident as he fished various honey holes. Everyone else also create a fantastic array of coloration in different part of the country.

This is why I chime in as Lee presented his catch for this day, or period of the season. As Lee present more photos, it could be an apparent documented color shift as the certain strains of the gills exhibit unique transition phase of colors in the wild.

Bruce, Tony, Walt, you Tooty, Dick, and many more isolated pond owners/anglers got to chime in. So much info being presented just in the past year alone.

Lee they don't let me out of TROY GROVE very often , only on day passes and stuff and don't go in libraries much to know about transitions and sounds very technical to me!

THANKS LEE and I really didn't know what the transitional thing was about! Love the dark color of this fish and the Kayak too!!!! Looks like fly line laying there and a popper on it in Yellow?

Water temp was 82 degrees air temp mid 80s so there not transitioning yet. This is a spring run with a high mineral content and gin clear water, the fish always seem to be more colorful here. Fight harder Too, I thought this guy was a Bass when he first hit!
