It's a unique adaptive method I've found quite useful during very windy day, or trolling on the float tube. Just enough to create a fast sink rate, yet, maintain a natural quick sinking/drowning victim that entice the fishes.

Jim, thanks for the input on the fish. Not too familiar with all the panfish species yet. So many variation. The 1/16oz sliding weight (two actually) create a fast descent for the jig with a cricket/worm bait after I detect a target fish on the fish finder. Since these fishes get chased by larger game fishes, best to move in quickly before another predator jumps on them.
