He was a fighter David.....tight circles and all....this guy was doing good with most of his tail gone......Nature has a way since he probably never lost any blood to this injury.....He took off strong when released also.......

That is a heck of an adaptation. This fish has obviously managed to not only survive, but maybe even thrive. The tail appears to have been taken off some time ago.
