Based on sheer numbers of big fish, the Albermarle region may well be the 'Bluegill Capital of the World'. Fish like this are by no means rare in the blackwaters.

It was a great fish and put up a better fight than a three pound bass I caught the cast before this one.......big throat and a helmet as well........
