Curious - if the "cracker" tribe feed mostly on mollusks, why strike the Kastmaster. Purely reaction?

Love that combination of freshwater mussels and pharyngeal teeth..... makes for some big fish!

Most local lakes with public access in this area are infested with zebra mussels.....only punkinseeds, redears, and gill-crackers have molar crush plates, and can effectively feed on them.

You are spot on Jim....Gill-Cracker....this one went 10.5"

It will be mounted with the 11"....above a shell bed with zebra mussels.

Could that be a gillcracker, Bill? It's got the body profile of a bluegill but coloration lends more toward redear...
