I bought a spinning rod combo from BPS in April 2006. A 5.5 ft light action Lightning Rod with a Quantum Catalyst CT10PTI spinning reel and spent the extra money on SpiderWire braid 8 lb and couldn't wait to put this together and try it out. The rig has spent many months in the trunk of my car and exploring shoreline fishing spots. It was my only and then one of my favorite rigs. When I took guests with me out in the boat this was the guest rig. Later this past summer the reel failed... gearing and anti reverse. Tore apart the reel and discovered many worn parts. 25 dollars to fix. Hmmm new reel shopping.
discovered worn polishing... not grooved... on the rod tip. Time to replace. Thousands of miles of braid has passed through that guide and that's it.
So here is the thing. The braid is still in great shape. I'll bet there's only 75 yds at the most left. Still looks new. I spray religiously with wd-40 and armor all. It outlasted the reel!
