This fish are natives of warm weather states, they are very sturdy but can't survive in cold water. from what I hear they are great eating fish
Dick, they are amazing fighter I would rank them up there with any other fish if not better, great to catch on light tackle
So has anyone tried to eat one of these?
Are these naturally wild or did someone let some pets go?
One of them funny fish can you tell me how they fight.
thanks for the link Federico. it seems kinda like jigging, minus using a jig head. i've caught several of these probably 5 or 6 inches and they fought hard, i can't imagine how hard one that size fights.
I know, they are very aggressive though, they probably kick all the BG out of the area come feeding time. This suckers are as mean as they look
Cool looking Federico....have to send Walt a couple and see what he does....LOL
the head on the popper is about the size of a dime, and here is a link to a drop shot explanation
Interesting, i've thought about buying some of those, but wasn't too sure on how well they would work. do you think they'd work alright with 6lb test? And how big was the popper? so is the drop shot like jigging? Sorry for all the questions haha. I'm in unfamiliar waters and i'm trying to learn as much as possible about how to fish them successfully
the popper was actually a fly rod popper I use 2# test so it is easy to cast, for deep sunfish the drop shot is hard to beat, just thread a red wiggler through the middle of the body and drop it down there, then shake it a little let it drop shake it let it drop
Ah nice, what are the details on the popper? I might have to invest in some of those. I found a spot were there a bunch of good sized bluegills sitting deep, next to a wall and they would just do the thing were they just swim up to the worm and look at it. Any suggestions for next time that happens?
