Speaking of unique coloring....these Chowan Cherry Bellies are unique to a creek I fish locally......For many years now when I fish this particular creek the fish are pigmented like these!...

Not sure about pigments as it relates to gills, but I have a little creek that is very productive and the fish have orange/red throughout their bodies so we have given them a nickname of "Cherry Bellies". This is another reason to use a great taxidermist so he or she could closely match......I'm really trying to catch a nice 1.5 pound fish or so with these color markings...

wow! Look at that red. Is that because they eat something that has a lot of the red pigment? I feed my cichlids krill which enhances the red and orange coloration.
