Do you love big bluegill?

Pop R Smallie

Wrote this six days ago (Thursday),fishing a lake for the 1st time :
"Smallies outfoxed me today .3 escaped off the Rapala ,two blew up on a Black Baby Torpedo , landed only one 12.5 " that took a Gold /Black back Rapala." Today same lake :Caught two 12" Smallies ,one blew up on a Pop R had him on for a second . Effective Lures ,two outings: Pop R, Bomber Crank, * Floating Rapala ,hooked the most (4) , Black. Baby Torpedo raised two fish .Floating a crawler was frustrating ,only very tiny Gills , was hoping for a variety of Panfish including Rock Bass which I believe I saw .2 outings fishing same spots: 3 Fish landed (Rapala, Bomber Crankbait ,Pop R ) three lost fish on Rapala, 3 fish raised on topwater baits .

He didn't feel well with a bronchial congested cold , walked ,fished , got skunked but still enjoyed this beautiful lake he fished for the first time . He threw some of his own beaded nymphs but short casts were not the ticket (he was using spinning gear) ,experimented with various plugs ,good choices I feel. As he put it, "still , glad to get out ."

Abney on September 30, 2014 at 2:08pm: I hear you on the new spot for sure John...............I love that side of fishing.....the "discovery" if you will.......I'm always like a kid when I get a lead or invitation to a new spot..............Most don't pan out but if you add a place that you enjoy going and maybe consistently catch fish.......it becomes special. I also enjoy taking folks to places that I know will produce.............I've got to where I enjoy that almost as much as catching fish myself.......my dad comes in every June and I always work hard the week before to locate fish without disturbing them so we get immediate results when he arrives...........Our time together is limited and it's a real joy almost a pay back for taking me as a kid! Sorry I rambled on!

The best thing is fishing a new to me beautiful lake close to home . Invited my brother this time .He didn't catch but he ,like me , is excited about this lake.
