Thanks so much Bruce. I'm not going to say that there couldn't be some bluegill mixed in. I think that Tony makes a good point about the stripes. It was released so I didn't get a good look at it.

I'll throw my two cents in...  The pic makes the fish looked washed out, but I think I see faint vertical stripes that leads me to believe there's some BG in there somewhere.

I do think it's mostly RES.

I'll feature this photo.  Perhaps other BBG members will chime in.  I'd say it's a dead lock for shellcracker genetics.  I agree that it could be pure, but there is a possibility of a little bluegill mixed in.  Regardless, it's a beauty.

thanks so much! i believe it was a pure shellcracker, because out of the sun it had a really red gill flap, but with that lighting it really does look like a hybrid.  thanks again

That's a very interesting fish.  Hard to tell from the lighting, but I suspect it's a 'gillcracker.  Awesome.
