very common for the fish to be pale around here after the ice out.i will try to get some pics.it happens to all fish species in my area every year.i assume it is from the ice cover and cold.

All of the males in my ponds have also been unusually pale this spring.  I too wonder if it has something to do with the colder-than-normal winter.

Taking big BG's on crankbaits and spoons is so much fun it ought to be illegal.

Comment by Bruce Condello on April 12, 2014 at 6:40am

...and you guys should see what they're doing to the crayfish pattern crank baits!!!

Tony, all of the males have started the year really pale colored.  A week ago they were almost colorless.  Weird.  Either dietary, or the fact they were in crystal clear water under thick ice for four months.  LOL.  99% sure from handling this fish that it was a male.  But I see what you mean.

10.25 inches.  I'd guess maybe 1-0 to 1-2?  That's in my backyard pond.  Very agressive bluegill that I'm catching, but almost all males.

Oh yeah! Great fish Bruce! Curious though......the overall coloration, size of the opercular, and general body dynamics speak female to me, but I see heavy scale tipping on the shoulders also.

What's your take on this fish Bruce?

(Love the sweatshirt also....nice!)
