I've caught most of my biggest on a flyrod . I switched over to trying replicate fly fishing using a micro jig and weighted float because of tennis elbow . The jigs work pretty good , but it lacks the presentation you can get with an weightless fly on a flyrod . The fly lands more naturally with little splash . Gillchaser

Always fun on a fly rod!

I usually keep a couple fly rods in the truck.

Payed a visit to the local town pond this evening . I'd caught 4 small gills and on small LM bass on my float and jig ultralight spinning rig . I could see swirls but couldn't get them to hit much until I switched from my tied jigs over to a 1" chartreuse plastic curlytail , and it took awhile to catch them . this little public pond gets a lot of pressure .
I was about to go home , but decided to give a flyrod a try . I was a diehard flyfisher for years but but have been mostly UL spinning the last couple years .
The rod I found behind my seat was a Cabelas 5'9" 3 wt. and a camera bag with a small reel and three small boxes of bugs .
I rigged up with a small hopper but only managed one strike in 30 minutes and I missed it . I switched to a small slow sinking spider similiar to a Caps spider but without weight and caught a small gill fairly quick . In the next 15 minutes I caught five , this being the largest . Not a monster , but a nice one for this pond and pretty colored .
Looks like I'm going have to start spending a little more time with the flyrod . Gillchaser

Great colors on that one GC. I recently started fly fishing and love catching them on the fly.
