Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Old wooden barges sank in tandem in the late 1950s from a passing Hurricane....

Lots of underwater debris around these old barge sinkings but they all hold fish and deep water is only yards away....It's like Mother Nature was a Bluegill angler and decided she would sink these structures for the future...Even this tree has popped up from the exposed debris......Great Place and people fly by and never stop....

I will be able to pluck a few gills off these structures starting in March as water temperatures rebound and start the slow rise back to peak.....

I like the way you think, Jeff. Pool umbrella LOL

Dropping anchors on top of this will surely result in the loss of your anchor so I ease in to the pilings pictured and tie off......in the heart of the Summer I actually take a pool umbrella and rig it up to provide a little cover during the pursuit of gills.....nice place to have in my pocket for a few gills.......

This is representative of the solid Bluegill that frequent these sites........

I first got little tidbits on the history of this structure and then I read in the local paper that a dive team was going to inspect these items to verify boater's safety in the river channel....Well I picked up the phone and called these guys and they described an aquarium like setting with tremendous bass and bluegill numbers along with other predator species.....It was determined stable and would not be disturbed to the delight of Bigbluegill.com member Jeffrey D. Abney! I asked if they retrieved any of my terminal tackle but they declined and said it adds to this underwater world........I hope local officials leave these fishing gifts right where they are........Can you say Grand kid hot spot!
