Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Protected Nesting Zones....a bonus in my region of North Carolina

Some folks would be upset seeing this but as I explain to my fishing company.....this is a very good thing that big gills have a peaceful and protected zone to nest.....These fish have been here for years and years....Knowing that, I could cut and move a few limbs and set up a great habitat to catch gills but like Selective Harvest, I choose to not disturb these fish and let them be the lucky ones, I have considered playing around with a remote camera to try to catch a few shots of the big coppernose that call this location home....and man there is some bruisers that reside in this hole...cool to see....

It's somewhat difficult to do. However sometimes we do succeed.

Yes Carl.....Blind Folded without GPS.......LOL......I'll have things prefished and we'll discuss a float plan then....I have hundreds of miles of black water to choose from.....It's a long trip, want to make sure he gets at least one or two Coppernose Frenzies and maybe catch a world class Flier....That would be good!

Here's another nest not far from the protected bed....this one right out in the open and has held big gills for over ten years consecutively.....a great sight!

This is as close as I come to being a fish manager without feeding......Some of these beds are two feet wide and almost a foot deep....big males doing some work....it's always a great sign and gives you a lot of confidence in a particular area when you find nesting zones year after year....the key is to not over fish these areas......
