Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught on a "wooly lizard" pattern my friend tied. It's been producing quite well in this area.

I just knew that looked like a Hawg Trough.  I have one.  You'll see it in the pic I post up when I'm kayak fishing, and get into a bigger fish.

Chris, now I KNOW I've gone off the deep end, if I can call out the major components of a fly that I've never seen, and only heard about once.

Leo, you have no idea!!!!  Most of my internet time right now is spent reading archived posts on a warm-water fly-tying board.  I have so many patterns going through my head right now.....

David, a "zonked rabbit skin" is one that has been sliced into thin strips.  Kind of looks like the skin was run through a paper-shredded.  You can also get "zonked" squirrel skins.  The individual strips, and the flies tied with them, are usually called "Zonkers".  I have no idea where the name comes from.

I've built a little widgit that will, in theory, slice a skin into thin strips.  It's just a couple long 8 x 32 bolts, with small utility razor blades that the bolts go through (the blades already have holes in them), and some washers for spacers.  A couple nuts on the ends, and I'm good to go.  I haven't tried slicing up a skin, yet.  I do have a whole rabbit skin, tanned, that I got from Hobby Lobby.  It's a dark charcoal grey, not quite black.  I need to get some practice cutting zonkers.  I get that done, then I will start keeping my eyes out for white rabbit skins.  Those can be dyed into a myriad of colors.

Thanks guys!! I was so psyched. I saw him in the water but didn't think he was gonna be this big. Allen you're pretty close to the pattern already, but I'll try to get a pic up of it. This guy put quite a bend in my 4wt.

Maybe a Wooly Bugger w/ zonker tail, and silli legs or similar for the legs of the lizard?
