Do you love big bluegill?
So went back to Wixom lake to continue where I left off… but all my spots were trashed with floating grass chopped up by heavy boat traffic. Of course! Probably the last great weekend of exceptional weather… they are going to take advantage. However I was able to scratch out a showing drop shotting vertically and slip bobbering the shallow edge. The fish were there just could not make a cast.

Our regulations allow the use of goldfish as bait, but under the subsection devoted to catfishing/non-game fish:
"It is unlawful to use any nonindigenous fish as bait that is not already established in the water
body being fished except for the following minnows: fathead minnows, golden shiners, and goldfish,
including ‘black salties’. No game fish may be used as bait to catch fish recreationally except
for bream (other than redbreast). When using game fish as bait to catch fish recreationally, they must be included in the daily creel limit."
There is a VERY LARGE portion of the overall regulations devoted to non-game fishing and restrictions of transfer, possession and release of non-native fishes. But the only mention made of goldfish is as part of the non-game regulations.
Interestingly, the core "regulations" only cover about 4 pages!
Sorry Jim I meant GOLD FISH....
I've seen big cold fish used and they work great but lots of states it is illegal in you would really have to check the laws of the state your fishing, in poor goldfish hasn't got a chance with all its orange coloring.
I'd like to have that golden shiner for bass bait!
I feel your pain I hate it when that happens or one worse the state kills all the weeds on the lake.
