Unbelievable rock bass, congrats on an amazing catch.

I think that BOW has more than an average shot at producing a record fish, Jacob. Good luck!!

Wow,  1 lb 10... Thanks for telling me Tony. That's big but I think there are some 2 pounders in the lake. I ordered a small but accurate digital scale yesterday and hope to have it by saturday. In any event, I'm going to try a bunch of stuff this weekend and see what works.

What Tooty says makes sense as well.  Maybe some Tungsten jigs tipped with crawfish tail meat?

Jacob, it looks like the Illinois state record for Rockbass stands at one pound, ten ounces...........

I suggest you buy a scale my friend....Thirteen and a half inches?? Hmmm...........................

YUP TONY'S RIGHT !!!!! I normally only comment once on a pic someone has put up , but this is different . Just plain unbelievable Jacob !!!!!!!! I fished this lake with Young Master Jacob Lindner Hill , as Dick and I used to call him last year. The lake is Deep and Very clear and that may be what is making it hard to get numbers of these Jacob. Just remember the old saying Jacob, if it's clear go smaller . What weight line ya using anyway? You could try tipping some really small baits. They'll see em cause of the water clarity no matter how deep they are buddy.
Yup no bobber like you said may help also so I guess you'd have to use a split shot to get the bait down . Can't think of anything else Jacob.......

Now that's what I'm talking 'bout - great catch

Try something that resembles a crawfish, or, go catch some small craws and use them as live bait.

Thanks guys. We sat for a long time wondering how to catch the mysterious fish we saw on the depth finder on the bottom in 15 feet. Remembering an old thread on here, and because I had tried everything else, I dropped down a worm with no weight, no bobber, just a hook and let it sit, and we ended up getting a few on that and a couple on artificials. Anyway, I'm hoping it gets a little easier.

I really should invest in a scale Tony, but this one was 13.5" measured on the rod quickly as I rushed to release him. I also didn't realize they weren't a lepomid until, well,  I read your comment. They look like a cross between a crappie and a smallmouth to me.

Also, I really haven't figured out how to catch these guys consistently, but I know exactly where they are, so I'm open to suggestions if anyone would be so kind. They are just plain finicky.
