More Crackers Without The Distinctive Ear Tabs...May 2020

Some of these fish have the almost white ear tab that I talked about earlier.........hybrid or adaptation to the tannic waters? One of those questions of nature.....

That tannic water seems to affect their ear flap from brightening up into the cherry red flap that we associate with these fish...I've personally never caught redear from tannic waters here in Kentucky.

Are we early and the males haven't arrived......I can't find a picture this season of a shellcracker with a red ear tab........
