Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are 3" long and it takes almost no weight to balance them. When the fish are very finicky and/or conditions are calm, these are my favorite.
They aren't much use for anything else, but under the right conditions, they can't be beat.

Based on your split shot, the huge offering bait, and the 1/32oz split, on a 4lbs test line(?), safely to say it supports 1/8oz or 1/4oz? The quill tested to take on 1/2oz, and slightly more. But as you indicated, casting is a pain in the rear for an 8ft leader.

More like a drinking straw, Leo, plugged at both ends.
This little float shown here barely supports a BB split shot + baited hook, leaving just 1/4" above the surface. It is the essential "light bite" slip float.
In truth, it's a bit too small. I generally only use these in the pond, or under very calm conditions with tele poles or the lightest spin gear. Quite specific.

Very interesting float. It appears to be a molded clear IV plastic tubing. What's the supported weight range on those David?

My one fuss over the quills - or any long waggling float - is difficulty on casting.
Working from a boat, or close in to shore, where you can work more vertically, they are fine.
When any casting is required, though, they get that nasty habit of helicoptering. That's what drove me to shorten them in the first place.

Carl,
These came from eBay, originally offered as cheap Chinese wagglers. Paid a few bucks for 40, I think.
They're just a painted plastic straw with a plug on top and the eyelet piece on the opposite end.
I pull em apart and cut them to the desired length, then reinsert the eyelet. A dot of super glue and it's done.
These are about as small as you can go, using common BB shot. Even then, there is only 1/4-1/2 inch above water.

Poor mans custom made Chinese quill floats - hahahahah!
