Jason, Greg nailed it. The color is the reflection of primarily on the dietary, environmental, and the amount of light. For it to achieve that color, with a bit of turbid water in the background, I was wondering if the clay soil create a unique opportunity for the gill to blend in with its environment. Energy is involved in creating pigmentation along the body, so, I can understand the conversation of energy during winter. But this color, it's very very light in comparing to the gill we caught in the colder waters of the mountainous regions over here in the west.
I think Leo, is asking in his way, was the water murky!!!!! Bluegill here take on the same color in winter!!!!! But SPRING is one day closer, and the BEAUTIFUL COLORS will be BACK!!!! Also warmer WEATHER!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL FISH!!!!!!!
