Be careful with the ziplock trick....that's what I do also, but if the scale is stored anywhere the sunlight can reach it, be sure and leave the bag open. I had one scale melt and warp pretty badly from heat buildup inside the sealed ziplock.

Keep em' in the shade, with the zipper partly open to allow air exchange.

Walt, it was digital scale. This scale is very precise and it was mostly my fault for not looking at the numbers correctly as we've not caught many this size. Get you a postage scale. Put it in a big Ziploc bag and use it while it's in the bag to protect it from the water.
