I cheat. I just use Bead Chain for the eyes on a Clouser. If I need extra weight, I just wrap some lead wire around the hook. Not that it helps, in the river..... Maybe some Tungsten hourglass eyes.
david no sense buying something until you know it works for you.tie a few try .i use them in the big cooling lakes where there is lots of rip rap.i got word on some creeks that hold good size smallmouths,so i have to come up with some flies to try .some sort of clouser will be in my box.you can fish them close to a rocky bottom without hanging up too much.
@ Jim Cosgrove - thanks for the tip on the split shot. Ive thought of it, but ave yet to give it a whirl. Nice to know it works.
Great streamer!
there you go chris!! real; real nice one buddy-- congrats!!
Nice Clouser Chris.
nice fly chris
Great looking fly Chris , should be a crappie getter for sure !!!!!!!!
david you can make due with a couple split shot lashed together like a bead chain.the clouser is another one of those flies that looks odd until you see it in the water.one of those things that cant really be improved on.the weight placement is critical for the action of the fly.it is very well designed and i have no fear throwing it in the rocks.i think a lot of flies that ride hook point up have their roots in the clouser.
Well, the lighting sucks (hint, hint) but it looks real nice.
I dare say you could tie everything out of marabou and do just fine in the fishing world. I HAVE to get me some of those small barbell eyes.....
