They take it very seriously, Ken. They call it "coarse fishing" in the UK, and make a big deal of it.
Go to YouTube and look up Bob Nudd and coarse fishing. Very interesting.
Yup...Bob has the top Euro carp gear and is always in the market for better equipment. Most carp anglers take better care of their gear than trout or bass anglers.
This lake does freeze in some areas, but most years you can find good carp/open water shoreline areas all winter long. Bob has taken fish up to 35 pounds in the winter, and on 4 pound line...incredible! I bet hes using 6 or 8 pound line for these fish.
Fuzzy,
See the black-box thingie on the end of the holder, there? My bet is there is your bite alarm.
I do the same thing when I make rod holders at the shore. I cut two forked sticks, one to keep the reel out the dirt and the other for the rod tip
That is a nice fish!
I agree with McScruff. Look at the gear in the background. Isn't that a European-style rod holder? Is there a bite detector in the mix somewhere?
I know Carp fishing is a big-time thing over in Europe. I wouldn't be surprised if many Americans are adopting European techniques.
They just get bigger and bigger with every passing photo.
Nice fish Bob and congrats on a great year......Does this body of water ever freeze over? Just curious if it seems like another mild winter in some parts of the country......
Nice glimpse, too, of the method laid out there behind you on the shore. Surely, out of scene is a nice cushy chair and a good lunch.
Awesome fish, and according to Ol' Gronaw, one of about 400+ for the year??
That is phenomenal, really. Carp are harder to catch than most folks realize. Doing it as consistently as you, well... "phenomenal" is not stretching it.
