Man, that bluegill is crazy big! I, too have only seen one fish like that in my lifetime, and that was a 13 3/4 in 'floater' we found washed up on the shore of Piney Run Lake, MD, back in march of 2000. Partially eaten, the floater weighed just under 3 pounds!
Great fish, JJ!

Jon Jon and I borrowed a scale from an old gentleman fishing on the beach. The scale was a little old and rusted but we came up with 2 lbs 12 ozs Just over 13 inches long. The fish was very thick and almost as tall as it was long. I wish I could have gotten my hands on a more accurate scale... there's a good chance it could have made 3 lbs. I've seen 3 lb Bluegill and this fish seemed every bit as big. Fish of a lifetime... and a smile to match. Bait was a Rob & Jon Jon jig 1/100th oz (we tie and paint our own) tipped with a cricket... freelined in about 5ft of water. 2lb test Maxima... water slightly cloudy and about 70 degrees. This Gill had 'Attitude' with a capital 'A' ... what a scrapper...
