Interesting info Tony. I downsize in the marina - shallower water and it seems the fish in there like a slower presentation. And when the water temps drop - not thee yet.

Fishing the lake usually means moving or fishing deep water right now. Crazy pattern right due to the water level drop....

Led, your photos are always a great source of information. Like you, I have been seeing something in a few of those fish that has me puzzled. I wondered about a RES connection, but studies indicate that when a RES crosses with a BG the offspring is 97% male....irregardless of which parent was male. So, female hybrids of gills and ears are pretty uncommon.

I think Bruce may have a photo here that shows a female hybrid....if I get some time I will look.

Then again, does it make a difference if the BG parent in question is northern, or coppernose? I kind of doubt it, but I have no studies that indicate one way or the other. I think the fish in this photo is a female coppernose.

Do you notice a benefit to downsizing your offerings as the season progresses? I know I do, but wasn't sure if the cooler water temps were a factor in your location, like they are in mine?

They had them in here Ken - think they are gone now. Pretty sure this might be a RE dominant BG female. I'm not a biologist - just guessing....

This is a down sized version dick - 1/80th with a #12 sickle hook.
