What Tony said...Sometimes the free info you get on the world-wide-web is worth what you paid for it, as in the sunfish "knowledge" given by whoever made the page Mike found.

I'm calling Warmouth on Paul's photo also....

Quick tip here: we all know the anal fin is the fin on the bottom of the fish, right in front of the tail...it is usually comprised of sharp, rigid 'spikes', or rays, and soft, flexible rays....

Rockbass will usually have 6 sharp, rigid rays, while Warmouth will only have 3..almost foolproof...almost. I've never counted rays on a warmouth hybrid....

Take a look at the photo Mike posted of a supposed Rockbass... It very plainly shows three sharp, rigid spikes or rays....hence, it's a warmouth. The color, while not a good way of identification by itself, also backs up the Warmouth I.D.

Mike, just goes to show you can't trust everything you find on the internet, AND, illustrates how difficult it can sometimes be to correctly identify a sunfish!

I am by no means an expert, but I have a different take on your photos....

The one on the left, that is labeled a Rockbass, looks more like a Warmouth to me, while the one on the right, labeled a Warmouth, is almost certainly a Green Sunfish.

Looks like a Warmouth to me to Walt.

The mouth is way too big to be a bluegill.  Looks to me like a straight warmouth.

Yes thats it ok ...it almost looks like a cross between a warmouth and a rock bass ..the goggle eyes look like a rock bass ... Mine is much more yellow in color ..the one in your pic Jeff has that brownish rock bass tint ......thank you
