Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Slapped a little paint on this 1 3/8" goody.
These came as unpainted baits, left to the fisherman to decorate.
I modeled it after the little "Crickhopper," from Rebel.
It has a DayGlo orange belly, yellow sides and red brown top sides.
The eyes are fabric "puffy paint" and the detail highlights are the result of a little trick I use:
I just dip a small piece of sponge in paint and dab it here or there to give a "textured" look.
The whole thing is finished with several sealer costs of gloss.
I reckon it'll work, right?

Hmmm, Ken - I had thought of these as part of a lure/nymph combo.
But a baited trailer? Cool!

Cut to the basic truth, it's just a small crankbait.
While that is mundane, in and of itself, it does present a hopper outline. There is no real "life" in them, although in the right spot and time of year, fish can be fooled into hooking themselves on these 'crankin' bugs.'
And you can't ignore that they DO catch fish, particularly shallow feeding species like gills, bass, crappie, etc.
I'm drawn to them because they don't look like the standard "fish" lure. They give a bit more license for the artistic. I can see me ending up with a whole box full, just because the finished product looks so cool!

you should incorporate a hook style option like this on one of your models...

if your crankbait floats it will act as a bobber when floating... like a mini tail gunner

Thanks - coming from you that's good enough!

I had several sessions of good luck with similar small "critter cranks."
My son swears by the little "Crickhoppers," claiming they catch bluegill like crazy.
Fingers crossed on these.

Nice paint job David and I to reckon it will catch fish.

Targeted species? Yes!!

They come in several colors, commercially, Dick.
Usually they are in shades of green, yellow, brown, or chartreuse.
I copied the yellow/brown here. Next I'll try one in green/dark green with yellow belly.
