You make a real good point David. Possible the seed is doing both fending off competition, but eating needs are possibly met as well . Two birds with one stone efficiency . 61 degrees is not too cold to be making nests but defending a nest already made and eggs dropped perhaps not .

Possible? Yeah.
61 is the crucial element, though. I'd suggest they are starting the pre spawn feeding.
Still a good thing for you!

I agree David. I might be wrong thinking  this fish was guarding a nest but the way it hit and the fact it was a big bait for him makes me think it's a possibility .

61 is still cool.
They're moving around, but not really committed.

61 degrees on the surface  at an inlet pipe today Ken. Very slow start for me this year .Small females for the most part ,two 8" males. Put a 3" gill under a float trying to call a Bass to it, no dice. Fished it for about 20 minutes .

Boy he must have been hungry, pretty fish.

Sorry Ken ,I haven't been checking it .I'll report back as soon as I get a chance to fish again.

Yes Jeffrey , fought real well for its size .I believe a male guarding a nest is the best fight a fish can give!
