Thanks for the info! I am sure I would like them, now.

Vince they taste nothing like Yellow perch. I would say if you like white bass you'll probably like white perch.

In my opinion Vince a Yellow Perch is better eating but a white perch ain't bad.....I would say it's like a TV picture.....put them all in one room and you can see the difference.....look at them individually and each looks pretty good........Bottom line.....they both make pretty good table fare........

Vince,
Do they taste like a yellow perch? Never haVing compared them side by side,
I can only guess. But my guess is yes.
Where both swim in the same waters, they usually do so together. While they are somewhat
different in their habits, it is not unusual to catch them at the same time.
Primarily fish of cooler, deeper waters with the same dietary preferences...
its a pretty safe bet they taste alike.
Both are well known for good tasting qualities. I can vouch for the
white perch on this score.

The greatest challenge is finding the schools of larger perch.
They move around open water and you may have to hunt em up
Better get that boat fixed up!

White Perch are on my bucket list of fish to catch, and after reading everyone's posts, I am more excited than ever to catch one. I never realised they were such good fighters. Do they taste anything like a Yellow Perch?

Maybe it was the way I stung him with my hookset .That fish amazed me how far and fast he travelled!

I think its all the genetics, John.

I caught my best one (about 12" ) which I'll never forget .Vernon Valley lake, Vernon New Jersey  Caught on a spinner under a willow tree in the shallows .When I set the hook he bolted like a Pickerel!

I have not caught them more than 12 " and am not saying gills of the same length as a White Perch can't beat them up. But , the fight Whites  produce for their body size and shape ,I have learned to respect  them .I respect all fish regardless for different reasons .

Write perch are usually bigger in estuary systems, like yours Jeff.
They are primarily a marine fish, but one that both tolerates and even
needs fresh water.
Where man and perch both meet along their migratory patterns, they
are usually a popular fish. In the past, and maybe even now,
their spawning runs are legendary.
