Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Had a blast today fishing with my telescopic Panfish pole.

All fish today were caught on the 12 foot telescopic Shakespeare DURANGO.

Sounds good, maybe I'll tow the boat and we can get out together one day. Have a great week!

Thanks, Jeff.

When you get around Augusta, hunt up the area known as, "Deep Step." This backwater off the Savannah River is responsible for some big fish. Troy, here on BBG, catches some huge fish outta there. Im sure you've marveled at some of the whoppers he hauls out.

Phinizy Swamp in South Augusta, is also a good spot for some backwater brim bustin'. But you have to be careful there - people have gone missing in that place!

Absolutely David, South Carolina in particular for me, has great "bream buster" locations. I had areas with extended grass beds that went on for miles and I would just work the edges real tight and cover alot more area than I could casting. I enjoy fishing the lily pad fields and this technique allows you to drop it in the natural holes provided. Green Lily Pads are brutal on light tackle when you hang up. I really like this method for fishing little shiners for panfish as well when it would otherwise be difficult to pass. We'll be getting down near Aiken soon as my son-in-law transfers to Fort Gordon.... Good Info..

Yep Jeff, I always have one, too... at least one.

Here in SC, you are only supposed to have two fishing outfits in the water at any one time, when fishing from the bank. In a boat you can have as many as you want, but I'm boatless. So for the time being, this limitation is relevant.

Remember, you cannot be fishing with more than two. That's the law, anyway.

So when I'm bank crawling, I always have my two "ready rigs"- light weight spin and/or spin-cast setups. But I always carry two retracted telescoping poles along with me. One is 10 or 13 ft, the other is long at 15 ft.

These two are ready strung, as well, but closed up so they are not officially "in use." When I find just the right spot, like under some overhanging bushes or around a big river snag, I close down the spin rigs and put them behind me, out of reach. Then I haul out the "reach in an get 'em rigs" - those telescoping poles!

Sometimes, I do a good bit of this swapping in the course of a fishing day. Other days, not so much.

To date, I have had several meetings with area fish and game folks, doing license checks and so on. I have not had even one of them make a comment about the poles. So, I always have at least one.

My telescopic is always on my boat and some days and certain areas are better to fish with that rig. Its alot of fun wrestling a nice gill to the boat when you can't bring any extra line in to help gain on him. I even swung a couple all the way to the other side of the boat. But its the way I was introduced to the gravel pits in Louisiana back in the day by my Grandpa Abney and I've always kept it in my arsenal!

I love fishing for gills with a pole. When, my son and I went Monday, all I kept say was, wish I had brought my pole.
