Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here is my off-the-cuff attempt at a Golden Nymph pattern... With a twist.
The segmented body is made from amber glass beads!
Hook, #8 streamer, bent to give an "animated" look to the bug.
Dubbing, brown and grey
Legs, Guinea hackle
Shell back, yellow Guinea hackle
Head, iridescent glass bead
Tail, yellow Guinea quill, lacquered

The tail gills, shell back and thread joining the head were lacquered, to give a shiny look. But the cool deal is the glass beading for the abdomen.
Can you say, "translucent?"
The fish will probably tear this to shreds, but I don't care - it looks wicked.

Okay, I didn't dream this up on my own. I've seen variations on this theme, i.e., glass beads, around the internet.
If you recall, I used beads on a soft hackle a week or so ago. That I did dream up.
In this case, I was inspired to adapt the materials I had on hand.
Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Terrific looking fly! By the way, you just nailed one of the Lake Perris' nymphs, minus the head's of hair. This nymph is deadly during the early of spring near the weedline with a dropshot. You are becoming a fly tying masters.

Had I not tied them tight in place, they would click and clatter I'm sure. But, I put a spot of dubbing at the rear when I tied in the tail, and this forces them together.

In fact, these particular beads are a tad oversize for the scale. But as proof of concept, it works.
From here, I'll go to the size I envision for this - #12
To get there, I'll have to get some smaller beads, and I can see the need for brown and green.

My aim here is not to DUPLICATE any one particular creature. After pouring over many pics of the common aquatic nymphs in my region, I noticed they all shared similar attributes. Body configuration, color, habitat, etc.
This common "look" is what I'm intent on re-creating. I tied some very generic nymphs this past summet, pretty shabby things, really. But they caught fish! I'm just refining that idea.
